There were some dispersed campgrounds 5 minutes or so from the entrance to City of Rocks. Not the most scenic juniper field but it worked.
After having a welcoming beer we headed over to the park. It was pretty overcast which didn't make for the most flattering rock lighting.
Howie wasn't terribly impressed which we later realized was due to him being under the weather.
We headed back to camp and wandered around the immediate area which wasn't very exciting. We ate tinfoil dinners and had drinks and went to bed. Have I mentioned that we finally discovered how much more comfortable life is on the little inflatable mattresses? Well we finally did and it's great.
The next morning, quite the view.
We packed up and returned to the acclaimed Rock City.
It was pretty cool with the bright blue sky. Howie was feeling a little better and seemed happier to be out and about.
We decided to go on a little wander on one of the many hiking trails.
It was truly.....a city of rocks.
