The drive over to Antelope Island was about 90 minutes, including the very regrettable Arby's stop. It is situated North West of SLC and is often only a peninsula depending on the level of the Great Salt Lake. We had heard it was best to not hike there in the summer as the smell from the brine flies gets very potent, so we patiently waited until cooler weather.
We weren't sure what to expect but it ended up being a lot more impressive than anticipated. Right off the bat we saw the Island's non-native but-very-happy resident, the mighty Buffalo.
We embarked on the trail and were smokin' by other hikers...
...until the Arby's set in. We were still moving at a pretty fast pace but I was also requiring more oxygen to very loudly complain and bemoan our poor decisions.
We got to the point where we could see the other side of the island and were treated to a pretty nice view, minus the sun spots.
"I'm thinkin Arby's"
Salt Lake in the distance.
The top!
Weak.
Definitely worth the 3 mile trek.
This was probably the neatest view, following the crest of the island Southward.
And just like that it was time to head back. The journey back was uneventful aside from my SCREAMING IT-BAND which we decided is from a too-tight knee brace. Fix one problem, cause another.
We drove around the island a bit longer to soak up the sunset.
& just like that, it was winter!
Time to move these trails......indoors.
