South Fork Weber River near Smith & Morehouse Reservoir - June 2 - 3, 2017

Our original plan was to return to a camping site we'd visited Summer 2015 that was located on a forest road above the Smith and Morehouse campground, but unbeknownst to us the road leading there is closed from May 1 - June 15 due to the snow run off. We didn't have a ton of time before it got dark so we immediately started heading back the way we'd come, hoping for some BLM land off of another forest road. First, however, Howie had to VERY SOFTLY bark at a moose friend.

After about 15 mins of driving we came upon a forest road that said it was private property for the first 2.5 miles. It was unclear whether the road kept going after that, but we decided to give it a go. The area was very pretty and we came across a couple that informed us there was in fact BLM land after the private property ended. Huzzah!

The creek running through the area was raging and we weren't seeing a ton of spots that weren't flooded. We passed one that looked okay with a haunted cow-fence in the center (which wasn't the best?) but quickly realized it was our only option as the road became impassable not much further on. Okay, it's fine. (Haunted cow fence as pictured the next day in photo #4)

We quickly got our tent set up and a fire going.

While gathering wood Brian realized that the spot up river from us that had previously not been flooded was, now, flooded. Hmm.

This new information prompted us to move our tent uphill about 100 feet, although it proved to be an unnecessary move as our site did not flood. I can only imagine how fun it would have been to wake up at 3am in freezing cold water.

I tried to take interesting sky photos but it didn't really succeed.

Howie slept on our feet all night and didn't seem at all bothered by the cold. I even tried to pull him into the sleeping bag with me but he was not having it.

(Howie had some good catches...

went on an exploratory walk of the surrounding area,

then packed up and headed back over to Smith and Morehouse Reservoir.

We found a nice spot on the shoreline to hang.

There were lots of floating sticks to tempt and delight Howie. Due to his being a huge wuss, the only time he managed to get fully in the water was by accident.

The rest of the time he danced around the rocks and got his feet wet while I took one million pictures.

After some mandatory group photos we decided to call it a day. We went home dirty and exhausted (but not sunburned!!) and were asleep by 9:30 even though it was a Saturday.
