Lake Blanche Trail is a 6.5 mile out and back trail that takes off from the S Curve in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It took us roughly 2 hours to get in and 1.5 hours to get out (with an hour spent enjoying the fruits of our labor at the lake).
The trail started in the pines but quickly rose up into meadows and aspens.
The yellow wildflowers were plentiful!
We managed to see a moose lunching in some nearby trees but he was pretty well concealed, merely a brown blur in the pics.
As we got closer to the lake the terrain grew more rocky and red.
We knew from the pictures that the pointy mountain overlooked the lake, so this was a welcome sight. And a very nice entrance!
WE HATH ARRIVED.
Mandatory Cartwheel Pic.
For Alyssa:
We had to traverse a mighty waterfall:
There were 3 total lakes at the top, all appeared to be man-made. This was the 2nd largest:
The journey down wasn't too rough although ol' righty was acting up by the end of it. The expected time going up was 2.5 hours which we beat by 30 minutes (oh yeah) but we were right on schedule for going down at 1.5 hours. Brian could have smoked it I'm sure but he's got to match speeds with the gimp!
We all slept well after this one.
