Lake Blanche Trail - July 12, 2015

Lake Blanche Trail is a 6.5 mile out and back trail that takes off from the S Curve in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It took us roughly 2 hours to get in and 1.5 hours to get out (with an hour spent enjoying the fruits of our labor at the lake). DSC_3300

The trail started in the pines but quickly rose up into meadows and aspens. DSC_3207 DSC_3208 DSC_3211 DSC_3213 DSC_3214 DSC_3219 DSC_3220

The yellow wildflowers were plentiful! DSC_3221 DSC_3225

We managed to see a moose lunching in some nearby trees but he was pretty well concealed, merely a brown blur in the pics. DSC_3230 DSC_3234 DSC_3236

As we got closer to the lake the terrain grew more rocky and red. DSC_3239 DSC_3241

We knew from the pictures that the pointy mountain overlooked the lake, so this was a welcome sight. And a very nice entrance! DSC_3244 DSC_3245

We had to traverse a mighty waterfall: DSC_3281 DSC_3283

There were 3 total lakes at the top, all appeared to be man-made. This was the 2nd largest: DSC_3288 DSC_3290 DSC_3293

The journey down wasn't too rough although ol' righty was acting up by the end of it. The expected time going up was 2.5 hours which we beat by 30 minutes (oh yeah) but we were right on schedule for going down at 1.5 hours. Brian could have smoked it I'm sure but he's got to match speeds with the gimp! DSC_3299

We all slept well after this one. DSC_3301
